The Most Played Steam Game of 2025 Has Been Revealed
2025 was already a dazzling year for game releases, but the release of Steam’s annual peak data left gamers in a state of surprise. Throughout the year, we saw incredible work from both major studios and the indie ecosystem, but the game the Steam community flocked to at peak times paints a completely different picture.
Monster Hunter Wilds Takes the Steam Top of 2025
Monster Hunter Wilds officially broke the record for highest concurrent player count in 2025. Capcom’s massive game, with a whopping 1,384,608 players, took the top spot for the year, according to SteamDB data. The fact that it reached not only the fifth-highest peak of the year, but also the fifth-highest peak in Steam history, makes the game’s impact even more striking.
Many gamers expected other games to take the top spot for the year. Battlefield 6, in particular, caused a stir with its release, generating considerable buzz with its peak player count of 747,440. However, Monster Hunter Wilds, leaving no room for its rivals, doubled its lead and easily took the Steam crown for 2025.
It’s worth noting that other major titles also delivered strong performances. Hollow Knight: Silksong amassed 587,150 players simultaneously, while ARC Raiders debuted with an impressive 481,966. On the indie front, a title like Schedule 1 saw 459,075 players, a clear indication of how active the year was.
Despite this, none of them managed to reach the million-player threshold. Monster Hunter Wilds, however, went down in history as the undisputed winner of 2025 in both sales and player count. Seeing such dominance in the face of such intense competition proves that Capcom still has the right formula.
