The Role of Daphne in the Scooby-Doo Series has Found its Actress
The long-awaited casting announcement for Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series has arrived. Mckenna Grace, who has appeared in notable projects despite her young age, will play Daphne Blake, one of the indispensable characters of the Scooby-Doo universe. Thus, the cast of Mystery Inc. is slowly becoming clearer.
Who is Daphne in the Scooby-Doo Series?
Mckenna Grace will bring the character of Daphne to life in the Scooby-Doo series. The actress previously voiced young Daphne in the animated film Scoob! So she’s not entirely unfamiliar with the character; this has somewhat reassured fans about the casting choice.
The eight-episode series will focus on the origin story of the Mystery Inc. team. The central theme is Shaggy and Daphne’s encounter with a lost Great Dane cub during their final summer at camp, and how this event is linked to a supernatural murder. Velma’s scientific approach and Freddy’s mysterious yet charismatic new kid will complete the team.
The series is rumored to have a more serious tone. Some sources even describe the project as a “one-hour drama” with a Riverdale-style narrative. This approach may differ from the more lighthearted feel of classic Scooby-Doo, but Netflix seems to be aiming for a modern adaptation that appeals to a new generation.
Filming is scheduled to begin in Atlanta in April. The Scooby character is expected to be brought to life with CGI, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. Mystery Inc. is back, this time with a slightly darker and more mysterious tone.
