Wardogs Will Not Cost $40 After Early Access
Wardogs is currently in early access on Steam with a $40 price tag, but developer Bulkhead has clarified that this price is only for the initial period. According to the studio’s CEO and lead producer, Joe Brammer, the price will gradually increase as the amount of content increases. With a planned development schedule of approximately 24 months, players will have to pay $20 more than today when they reach the full release.
Wardogs to Rise to $59.99 in Full Release
According to Brammer’s plan, the price will rise to $49.99 when the game reaches version 0.5. This change is planned for September of next year. When Wardogs reaches version 1.0 and fully exits early access, the standard retail price will be $59.99.
Bulkhead describes this approach as “scaling pricing.” According to Brammer, as the game develops, it’s fair for the price to increase proportionally as it gains more content, systems, and features. He says those who want to buy the game cheaper can do so during the early access period, while those expecting more content should accept the higher price.
The CEO also responded quite openly to criticisms regarding the game’s price. Stating that Wardogs is expensive to develop, Brammer believes the studio is somewhere between indie and AA, and that the price reflects the game’s value. He even directly told players who found the price high, “If you don’t agree, don’t buy it.”
Thus, the current $40 price of Wardogs will not be permanent. Two separate price increases are planned during the approximately two-year early access period, with the final target being $59.99. There are no surprises from Bulkhead regarding this; the studio has already openly announced the price increases.
