Will World of Warcraft Forever End Mob Fighting?

World of Warcraft Forever, with its structure close to the Vanilla era, offers a familiar experience to veteran players while also bringing back some strict rules for those accustomed to modern WoW. Chief among these is the absence of a shared mob tagging system. This means that when one player makes the first attack on an enemy, other players outside the group cannot receive experience or loot from that same enemy. Especially during the beta period, due to the high volume of players, this sometimes caused players to queue for quest creatures.

World of Warcraft Forever Will Not Bring Back a Shared Mob System

In modern World of Warcraft, multiple players can attack the same enemy, and everyone receives their own reward. In Forever, however, when an enemy is tagged by another player, it turns gray, and characters outside the group cannot benefit from that mob. This creates a small amount of competition among players, especially in quest areas.

Blizzard’s Josh Greenfield has made it clear that they will not back down on this. According to Greenfield, the absence of a collaborative mob tagging system is one of the core ideas of Classic and Forever. Blizzard acknowledges that they may make changes to mitigate some of the discomfort, but they are not planning to directly introduce collaborative tagging.

The main goal behind this is to encourage players to play together. Players waiting for the same quest are encouraged to form groups, share mobs, and complete progress together. Blizzard believes that these small conflicts that arise when playing alone increase social interaction.

Fortunately, the system is not being completely abandoned. In the World of Warcraft Forever beta, mob respawn times have been significantly sped up, so players don’t have to wait for minutes for the same enemy. So mob fighting won’t completely disappear, but Blizzard aims to mitigate this issue somewhat with faster respawn times.
