Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is Going Through Tough Times
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a collaboration between Arc System Works and Sony, launched with strong review scores, but performance issues on the PC version seem to have seriously hampered the game’s success. While the console version was very well-received, it didn’t receive the same attention on Steam. Initially reaching around 25,000 concurrent players, the game quickly dropped below four-digit numbers.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is Rapidly Losing Players on Steam
According to SteamDB data, Marvel Tōkon’s concurrent player count has recently fallen below 1,000. This drop in six weeks is quite sharp for a fighting game that saw around 25,000 players during its launch period. Steam user reviews remain positive at around 49 percent.
According to estimates published by Alinea Analytics, the game has sold approximately 740,000 copies across all platforms. This number is not official Sony or Arc System Works data. For comparison, Guilty Gear Strive reached 500,000 sales about a month after its release, but even the peak player count for the last 24 hours on Steam for the five-year-old Strive still surpasses Marvel Tōkon.
The biggest problem is performance issues with the PC version. Arc System Works has released numerous updates since launch, and almost all patches have focused on improving PC performance. Despite this, some players are still reporting frame rate and stability issues.
Add to this are regional sales restrictions on Steam and criticisms of online systems requiring a PlayStation account. Arc System Works has also apologized twice for the problematic launch of the PC version. The DLC plan for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls continues until September 2027, but whether player numbers will recover will be shown by future content updates.
