Kojima is Confident that Physint Will be a Huge Commercial Success
Physint, Hideo Kojima’s project marking his return to the action and espionage genre after Metal Gear Solid, is already generating great interest. Although the publishing process, which began with Sony, has ended and the project has subsequently moved to Xbox, Kojima hasn’t lost faith in the game. In fact, the experienced developer believes Physint could be the “bestselling” game he’s ever created.
Physint Aims to Reach a Wider Audience
In a statement, Kojima said he sees Physint as the strongest commercially viable project he’s ever undertaken. He also stated that he was surprised by Sony’s withdrawal from the project, adding that he never thought such a game would be among those canceled.
The idea for Physint was also influenced by the fact that players have been wanting a new Metal Gear-like game for years. Kojima says that because the Metal Gear brand belongs to Konami, he couldn’t directly return to the series, but he realized he could create a new action-spy game.
The game’s systems are still in the experimental stage. Kojima specifically mentions that they are working on new technologies, such as enemy AI, and that these experiments could even change the structure of the story. Some basic technical details, such as the game engine to be used, are not yet finalized.
Because Kojima Productions is currently prioritizing Death Stranding, the Physint team is kept relatively small. Despite this, Kojima believes that Physint will offer a more direct and easily understandable experience compared to Death Stranding. The developer says that the spy theme already provides a strong foundation for the game, and with this project, he aims to reach a much wider audience.
