You Can’t Take a Break from the Black Ops 7 Story
Black Ops 7 is making headlines with a decision that’s unconventional in the Call of Duty series. The game’s story mode is now fully online, meaning the world keeps turning even when you press pause. Want to take a break in the middle of a mission, grab a coffee, or check your phone? No way. Because when you pause the game, your character remains in combat. This creates a rather frustrating experience, especially for those playing on higher difficulty levels.
Black Ops 7 Receives Major Backlash from Players
The removal of the pause option in story mode has divided the Call of Duty community. Some players see this decision as an “unnecessary innovation,” while others interpret it as a part of modern systems. However, the majority are quite clear: “We can’t even breathe in story mode!” Posts on Steam and social media indicate that enemies continue to attack even when the menu is accessed. This doesn’t slow down the pace of the game, especially in long missions, but rather makes it downright frustrating.
Another point of contention is the requirement for a constant internet connection. Even a brief disconnection can cause the mission to restart from the beginning. Some players say that the “daily update” screens that suddenly appear during cutscenes completely disconnect them from the story. This means being vigilant not only in combat but even in the menu is essential.
Activision, however, maintains that this feature is necessary for “global progress tracking and XP sharing.” However, many players found this explanation unconvincing. One of the most frequently voiced criticisms in the community was, “Does internet even need to be present in a single-player game?” While Treyarch remains silent on the matter, players are still hoping for an “offline mode” in the game’s future.
Despite everything, Black Ops 7 is a technically powerful game. However, this new system seems to have soured the game for many players. The inability to pause the story mode has become one of the series’ most controversial decisions. In Black Ops 7, the biggest enemy isn’t bullets anymore… it’s players who want to take a break.
