Activision Has Set It’s Sights Higher, Aiming to Make the Best Halo Game Ever

Activision will have a direct say in the future of Halo as part of the restructuring announced by Xbox on September 22nd. Following the integration of Halo Studios under the Activision umbrella for the new game, company president Rob Kostich clearly stated the project’s goal. Kostich says the next installment should be worthy of the series’ legacy and preserve the core characteristics that made players love Halo. To this end, a dedicated team, separate from Call of Duty teams and solely focused on the new Halo project, has begun to be formed.

Activision Sets the Bar High for the New Halo

Rob Kostich stated that the company’s goal is to make “the best Halo game ever.” This is quite a bold claim, as the series has some of the most memorable titles in FPS history, from Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo 3. Instead of completely changing this history, Activision aims to start a new era by preserving the elements that made the series so beloved.

The team created for the new Halo game will operate independently from Call of Duty’s current development plans. Microsoft’s previous statement also indicated that this team was specifically formed for the project. A smaller team remaining at Halo Studios will continue to support existing Halo games and the current community.

This change is one of the most notable results of Xbox’s extensive restructuring. During the same period, Rare was brought under Activision’s management, while Obsidian Entertainment moved under Bethesda. Microsoft is thus transitioning to a new organizational model with fewer business units and larger publishers taking on more responsibility.

The name, release date, and gameplay structure of the next Halo game have not yet been announced. Therefore, it will be necessary to wait and see how well Activision’s goal will be achieved. Nevertheless, the company’s setting the bar for “the best Halo” from the very beginning of development has already significantly increased expectations for the new project.
