Sony Will Solve Technical Problems Remotely Using Artificial Intelligence

Sony has published a patent for an AI-based system that can automatically detect and fix software problems on its devices, primarily the PlayStation. The idea is quite simple but ambitious: a remote AI agent will monitor the device, diagnose the problem, prepare the necessary software fix, and send the solution directly to the device without the user having to contact technical support.

Sony Can Automatically Fix Problems with AI

The patent doesn’t only cover PlayStation consoles. The system is described as usable in Sony’s televisions, phones, headphones, and other consumer electronics products. The goal is for the system to detect and address the problem before the user encounters an error message when a software error occurs.

Sony Will Solve Technical Problems Remotely Using Artificial Intelligence

According to a patent filed in March 2025 and published this month, devices are planned to be in constant communication with the cloud. Artificial intelligence will first identify the source of the problem, then, if necessary, generate the required code and apply a fix to the device. In theory, this approach could significantly reduce the need to open support requests or wait for lengthy updates.

However, this is where the risk begins. If an automatically generated fix malfunctions, a small software problem could escalate into a larger failure. Incorrect intervention in sensitive areas such as power management, temperature control, or system stability could have serious consequences.

Therefore, Sony’s AI-powered technical service system is currently only in the patent stage. The fact that a patent has been granted doesn’t necessarily mean the technology will be implemented. Nevertheless, it’s quite noteworthy as it shows Sony is working on ideas to reduce human intervention in technical support and resolve problems as much as possible in the background.
