Activision will Revamp the Halo series
Activision, having taken over the management of the Halo brand following Microsoft’s recent restructuring, has reportedly made its first serious claim regarding the next game. According to shared information, the company may be planning a reboot of the series instead of continuing the current storyline. Whether Master Chief’s past will be completely erased is still unknown, but the claim suggests the new era will be significantly different from previous games. For now, there is no official reboot announcement confirmed by either Microsoft or Activision.
Activision Plans a New Beginning for Halo
The source of the claim is the social media account TechnicalHalo. According to the post, Halo will now move into a “new chapter,” and the current storyline will not be continued. If this statement is true, it is possible that Activision will not only develop a new Halo game but also revisit the series’ narrative and the future of the characters in a much more comprehensive way.
However, there’s an important detail here. The information in question hasn’t been independently verified, and Insider Gaming also states that they couldn’t confirm the claim from their own sources. Therefore, it’s too early to say definitively that Halo will be rebooted. What Activision has confirmed is that they’ve assembled a dedicated team for the new Halo game and that the project will be separate from Call of Duty’s development plans.
Such a change isn’t surprising. Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite were met with more controversy compared to previous games in the series. Almost five years have passed since the last game in the main story. With Microsoft changing its studio structure, it’s possible the new team wants to move away from the old narrative.
Activision President Rob Kostich previously stated that their goal was to make “the best Halo game ever.” If the reboot claim proves true, the company will have chosen a rather radical path for Master Chief in pursuit of this goal. Since the new game’s name, release date, and story are still unknown, the official announcement will determine whether the series will truly be rebooted.
