MindsEye, while trying to overcome the problems it has faced since its release, has come to the forefront with an unexpected multiplayer mode. Grenade Football, added to the game as part of the eighth update, abandons classic football rules and allows players to compete with grenade launchers. The development team aims to create a more fun and chaotic experience with this content.

MindsEye Takes to the Football Field with Grenade Football Mode

Grenade Football is designed as an online game mode where two teams of six players each face off. Instead of directly kicking the ball, players use grenade launchers to move the ball and try to send it to the opponent’s goal. According to the official statement, the outcome of the matches will depend on teamwork as well as the performance of players who can aim correctly. The explosive-filled structure promises fast-paced and difficult-to-control matches similar to Rocket League.

The announcement of the new mod didn’t receive the expected level of interest from the community. In the comments section of the trailer, some users criticized MindsEye for shifting to a football-themed mod after being promoted as a GTA-like action game. Adding such diverse content before addressing the game’s existing issues raised questions about the studio’s future direction. Some players even considered the mod a hasty attempt to revive interest in the game.

The update’s impact on Steam has also been quite limited so far. According to shared data, the addition of Grenade Football only resulted in a 12-player increase in concurrent players. MindsEye’s highest player count in the last 24 hours was recorded at 36. The lack of sufficient publicity and minimal social media activity may be contributing factors to this low interest.

Build a Rocket Boy has recently been in the news due to the termination of its publishing partnership and internal company disputes. It remains to be seen how Grenade Football will impact the game’s player base in the long term. While the eighth update shows MindsEye will continue to be supported with new content, the studio may need to deliver more comprehensive improvements to win back existing players.
