Steam Extension Highlights AI Use

The extension, released for Firefox and Chrome, automatically displays a notification pop-up if a game on the Steam store has an AI content notification. Normally hidden at the bottom of the page, this notification is not overlooked, allowing players to see a clearer picture when making their decision.

The extension not only displays alerts but also blurs the background, completely focusing attention on the notification. This allows players, especially those sensitive to AI, to make faster and more accurate assessments when browsing game pages. The only drawback is that it requires browsing through the browser rather than the Steam app.

According to published reports, approximately twenty percent of games released on Steam by 2025 will use AI tools. This is expected to increase as major developers more aggressively adopt this technology. Therefore, it is expected that the extension will issue frequent alerts. This has sparked comments from the community that “AI is everywhere now.”

However, there are also industry figures who oppose the adoption of full AI. The Witcher 3 director argues that games developed entirely with AI will “lose their soul,” while studios like Larian and AdHoc believe that generative AI undermines the creative process. Amidst these debates, this extension offers players a small but important measure of control.
