Gray Zone Warfare is now a PvE-Focused Tactical Shooter
Gray Zone Warfare has been undergoing a significant transformation recently. Initially described as an extraction shooter, the game evolved into a tactical MMOFPS over time. Now, with an update to its Steam page, a new definition emerges for Gray Zone Warfare: PvE-first open-world tactical shooter.
The PvE-First Era Begins for Gray Zone Warfare
MADFINGER Games has updated the product description for Gray Zone Warfare, defining the game as a “High-Stakes PvE-First Open-World Tactical Shooter.” This change clearly indicates a shift towards a PvE-focused structure.
Initially notable for its extraction shooter elements, Gray Zone Warfare offered a persistent world instead of time-limited raids. Players could deliver missions without returning to base, and remain in the field for extended periods, moving from COP to COP and POI to POI on the map. This structure offered a different experience from the classic extraction formula.
Last year, the development team described the game as a “tactical MMOFPS,” emphasizing a persistent, dangerous, yet accessible world. Now, with the PvE-first label, the focus is even clearer. PvP hasn’t been completely eliminated, but the priority is now on AI enemies and PvE content.
Studio CEO Marek Rabas states that the PvE experience will remain central and the game will not lose its tense nature. AI-driven combat, a tactical structure close to milsim, and survival mechanics remain the cornerstones of Gray Zone Warfare. The PvE-first approach aims to offer a more accessible experience for new players while increasing long-term engagement for the existing audience.
