Kingdom Come: Deliverance Director Transitioning to the Film World

Daniel Vávra, one of the first names that comes to mind when you think of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is making a surprising career change. Vávra, who led the series to global success with the first game released in 2018 and the sequel last year, is now stepping back from game development to focus on the Kingdom Come: Deliverance film. Frankly, this news is both exciting and a little bittersweet.

A New Era for the Kingdom Come: Deliverance Film

According to a statement from Warhorse Studios, this decision is not a separation crisis. Studio head Martin Fryvaldsky specifically emphasized that Vávra wanted to move into a different field of his own accord. So there’s no “fired” story; on the contrary, it’s a move to realize a long-held dream.

It’s not surprising that Vávra, after three major, globally successful video games, is now turning to film. Kingdom Come: Deliverance already had a strong cinematic structure with its powerful story, historical atmosphere, and characters. It seems natural that he wants to bring that world directly to the big screen.

The good thing is that the project is headed by someone who knows the universe best. The biggest fear in video game adaptations is usually “not staying true to the source material.” Here, on the contrary, the creative vision of the series will directly guide the project.

Of course, this raises some questions on the game side. The fact that Vávra will not be involved in the day-to-day development process in Warhorse’s future projects is a significant change. However, the studio states that he is still a broad part of the team. Now, all eyes are on what kind of adaptation Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be.
