Understanding what pets are trying to tell you has been one of the sweetest curiosities for pet owners for years. Sometimes a meow, sometimes a short bark, or just that look waiting at the door can turn into a big question mark. A Chinese startup is trying to solve this curiosity with technology. The company claims that its AI-powered pet translator can translate animal behaviors and sounds into human speech.
How Does the AI-Powered Pet Translator Work?
Hangzhou-based startup Meng Xiaoyi has started the pre-order process for its new device, which it claims can analyze pet sounds, behaviors, and emotional responses and translate them into human language. According to the company, the device has received 10,000 reservations since the beginning of May. This interest shows how strong the desire of pet owners to “I wish I could understand what they’re saying” still is.
The device is priced at 799 yuan, or approximately $118. Worn around a pet’s neck, the device reportedly uses Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen language model. The company claims the system analyzes animals’ vocalizations, anatomical features, and behavioral patterns. Allegedly, using this data, the device can convey the animal’s mood and needs using expressions similar to human speech.
The most striking claim concerns its accuracy rate. Meng Xiaoyi claims the device operates with approximately 95% accuracy. However, a significant question arises: the company has not yet shared any independent scientific studies or comprehensive data to support this rate. Therefore, caution is advised regarding the device’s true success.
Nevertheless, the project has attracted investor interest. The company reportedly received approximately $1 million in early-stage funding. While this support demonstrates confidence in the commercial potential of the idea, it doesn’t prove the technology works as flawlessly as claimed. If the device proves truly successful, it could usher in a new era of fun and useful experiences for pet owners.
