Ryu and M. Bison Face off in the New Street Fighter Commercial
As Street Fighter’s release date of October 16, 2026 approaches, it’s been appearing more frequently with new advertisements and promotional content. The latest images highlight the tension between Ryu and M. Bison, suggesting the film will explore Bison not only through his physical strength but also through his leadership qualities. Director Kitao Sakurai’s approach may interpret the character somewhat differently from his classic image in the games.
Street Fighter Will Approach M. Bison from a Different Perspective
David Dastmalchian, who plays Bison, said that when he was first offered the role, he didn’t find himself very close to the character’s classic physical appearance. He even stated that he openly expressed this during his first meeting with the director. Sakurai’s response indicated that he wanted to tell a different story for Bison.
According to Dastmalchian, the film won’t just portray Bison as a big, terrifying villain. One of the key points will be explaining why people followed him and supported the founding of Shadaloo. This suggests that a more charismatic and ideological side of the character could be highlighted.
The film will be set in 1993, and Ryu and Ken’s paths will cross again. Chun-Li will involve the duo in the new World Warrior Tournament, but it will be revealed that there is a larger conspiracy behind the tournament. At some point, the story will bring Ryu and Ken face-to-face, forcing them to confront issues from their past.
The cast itself is quite large. Andrew Koji plays Ryu, Noah Centineo plays Ken, Callina Liang plays Chun-Li, Cody Rhodes plays Guile, and Jason Momoa plays Blanka. Roman Reigns, 50 Cent, Olivier Richters, and Hirooki Goto are also involved in the project. The new advertisement also shows that Street Fighter will rely heavily not only on fight scenes but also on the conflict between the characters.
