Medal of Honor: Retro Remake Received Great Interest from Players
Medal of Honor: Retro Remake turned out to be a pleasant surprise for players who missed the classic war game series. Although EA has long since put the Medal of Honor brand in the background, the series still has a strong fan base. The fan-made remake, which brought the first game released for PlayStation in 1999 to PC, quickly garnered more attention than expected. This interest encouraged developer Elber88 to expand the project further.

The fan-made project was developed with Unreal Engine 4 and aimed to bring the first Medal of Honor game to modern PC players. While using the original game mechanics, the remake evaluates some assets through Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Thus, the series’ first adventure, which began on PlayStation, becomes playable on PC years later. This was a very nostalgic return, especially for those who missed the old Medal of Honor atmosphere.
Following the overwhelming interest in the project, the developer released version 1.1. This update includes some player requests and various fixes. The developer stated that he was surprised by the interest the remake received not only from long-time fans of the series but also from regular players. He said that this support allowed him to continue working on the project in his spare time.
The most notable aspect of the new version is the addition of a section cut from the original game. The Colditz Castle level has been recreated based on available information and limited resources. In the original game, this mission is thought to have involved gathering intelligence and assassinating the castle commander. However, since the information is limited, the developer states that the level should be considered their own interpretation.
Despite its shortcomings, Medal of Honor: Retro Remake seems like an interesting work for players interested in the history of classic FPS games. The absence of original animations might be a minor drawback for some players, but the fact that the project is entirely fan-made makes this more understandable.
