Horde Survival Extraction Game NightRunner Announced

314 Arts, known for Projekt Z: Beyond Order, is preparing a very different kind of survival game this time. The new project, called NightRunner, combines classic wave-based combat with an extraction concept. The basic idea is quite appealing: you build your own wagon, create a giant train with your team, and try to survive against creatures throughout the night. But if the train doesn’t reach its destination, you lose everything you’ve collected.

NightRunner Will Offer an Extraction Experience Based on a Train

NightRunner’s main mode will be Train Jobs. Each player will build their own wagon and cargo, then these wagons will combine to form one large train. Along the way, it will be possible to collect resources, find weapons, and upgrade the wagons. The best part is that the train is constantly moving and the battlefield is constantly changing.

If a train car falls, the game doesn’t end immediately. That car is left behind, and the team continues defending in the next car. This system combines the classic tower defense logic with extraction. So, knowing when to retreat will be as important as holding your position.

The game will feature four different Runner Kits and four distinct roles: Engineer, Stalker, Field Expert, and Thermite. In addition to Train Jobs, there will also be Transition Jobs, Dungeons, and Endless modes. The Endless mode is particularly inspired by Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies and measures how long you can withstand increasingly difficult waves of enemies.

In NightRunner, the stakes will be very high. If a mission fails, you lose both the equipment you brought with you and the equipment you found along the way. NightRunner attempts to combine ideas from games like Killing Floor, Escape from Tarkov, and Call of Duty Zombies into a single train-centric system. The game will be released for PC in 2027, with the first public playtest planned for September.
