PlayStation 5 Can Run Bloodborne in 4K
Bloodborne is one of the most talked-about games that still hasn’t received an official upgrade, even though the PlayStation 5 generation is entering its sixth year. FromSoftware fans have been wanting at least 60 FPS support for years, but Sony hasn’t taken any concrete steps in this regard. This silence has led to discussions about whether the game is technically eligible for an upgrade. However, a new Digital Foundry review suggests the situation might be different than expected.
Bloodborne Can Achieve Higher Performance on PS5
Digital Foundry tested system patches created by mod developer Christina to examine how Bloodborne performs on PlayStation 5. According to the results, with some technical adjustments, the game can reach 30 FPS at native 4K resolution, 60 FPS at 1440p resolution, and 120 FPS at 1080p resolution. Furthermore, it’s stated that the game’s core mechanics remain intact at these high frame rates.
These results are particularly important because removing the frame rate cap in older Souls games isn’t always easy. Animations, collision detection, and physics systems sometimes rely on 30 FPS, so high frame rates can break the game. In Bloodborne tests, however, gameplay remained quite fluid, at least in the sections examined.
However, this doesn’t mean an update will be immediately available on official PS5 consoles. The modified system used in the tests unlocks the full CPU and GPU clock speeds of the PS5 and allocates an extra 4 GB of system memory to the game. According to Digital Foundry, the 1440p/60 FPS mode doesn’t work stably in the standard backward compatibility architecture.
Therefore, Sony needs to prepare a system-level backward compatibility update for an official solution. Such a step could open a new door not only for Bloodborne but also for many PS4 games. Nevertheless, this test clearly shows that it’s technically possible for Bloodborne to run better on PS5.
