Sega Unveils Figure Containing Sonic DNA

Sega has made headlines with an interesting project that deviates from the usual celebration methods for the 35th anniversary of the Sonic brand. The Sonic universe, known for its fast-paced, colorful, and sometimes bizarre collaborations, is now being discussed for its connection to the real world. The newly introduced figure has managed to attract the attention of gamers not only with its design but also with the idea behind it.

Sonic DNA Figure to be Exhibited in Tokyo

The Sonic the Hedgehog DNA Figure was introduced via the official Sonic movies YouTube channel. The figure is designed as a life-size Sonic statue in a bright silver color. A green Chaos Emerald is located on the chest of the statue. While it might seem like a collectible special anniversary item at first glance, Sega’s claim makes this work much more bizarre.

According to Sega, the Chaos Emerald on the figure’s chest contains Sonic’s DNA. Of course, this isn’t a biological material taken from a real video game character. The promotional material states that Sonic’s enduring spirit has been transferred to the real world in the form of “DNA” using advanced biotechnology. Therefore, the project is positioned more as an artistic and symbolic experiment.

Behind this work is a rather unusual team called Lom Baby. Describing themselves as a science collective of artists, engineers, and scientists, the group has previously attracted attention with their “dragon meat” and T-Virus-themed works from the Resident Evil universe. Therefore, the Sonic DNA figure seems like a new example of the team’s strange connection to the gaming world.

The figure will be displayed at the Sega Store in Tokyo starting June 23rd. Prepared for Sonic’s 35th anniversary, this work aims to be much more than a classic collector’s item. While strange, flashy, and somewhat difficult to understand, it can be said to be a celebration perfectly suited to the Sonic brand.
