Change of roles at Square Enix: Yosuke Matsuda ousted
But this change is not yet finalized. It is the first step towards change. The decision on the position at Square Enix Holdings is scheduled to take effect after a meeting targeted for May 2023. Kiryu, the proposed replacement for Matsuda, is currently serving as Chief Strategy Officer at the company. The announcement also said that there is no new role for Matsuda after the position change and that he will likely leave the company.
Kiryu, 48, has a few months to come to this position. However, the fact that he is 11 years younger than his predecessor shows that the company may enter a more aggressive production system in the future.
Yosuke Matsuda had led the company for 10 years and accomplished many big projects in this process. However, the disappointment in two big titles such as Marvel’s Avengers and Forspoken seems to be one of the biggest reasons for the company’s decision to change.
