Steam Controller Queue Has Grown Longer

The Steam Controller has seen a surge in demand, exceeding Valve’s expectations, leading to a rapidly lengthening order schedule. The company has updated its reservation page with clearer estimated delivery times. According to this update, some users may be able to complete their orders in September 2026, while others will have to wait until December 2026 or 2027. For new users making reservations, the estimated availability now appears directly as 2027.

Steam Controller Demand Exceeds Valve’s Expectations

Valve stated that demand for the new Steam Controller exceeded expectations shortly after its launch. The company aims to reduce uncertainty for users and improve production planning by switching to a reservation system after stocks ran out. Despite this, the current situation shows a long queue of people wanting to purchase the device.

The reservation system currently operates as is. When a user’s turn comes, Valve will send an email to complete the purchase. At this point, users will have a little over 72 hours to complete the process. So, simply being in the queue doesn’t guarantee the device; it’s crucial not to miss the notification.

Valve previously opened reservations after stocks quickly depleted, limiting the system to one device per account. They also implemented certain account requirements to reduce reseller activity. New announcements reveal that despite these measures, demand remains quite high.

This delay is also noteworthy in terms of Valve’s 2026 hardware plans. While the company is working to grow its ecosystem with SteamOS updates, Steam Machine support, and Steam Frame preparations, the Steam Controller queue extending into 2027 shows the device’s popularity, but clearly reveals Valve’s struggle to keep up with demand on the stock and production side.
