SteamOS 3.8.26 Beta Update Released: What’s Changed?
Valve has released the 3.8.26 Beta update for SteamOS to users in the Beta and Preview channels. Instead of adding major new features, the new version focuses on fixing bugs seen in previous beta builds. Specifically, performance drops experienced in situations requiring composition, such as FSR, VR image issues, and connection problems seen in some portable gaming PCs are addressed in this update.
SteamOS 3.8.26 Beta Fixes Performance and Compatibility Issues
One of the most significant changes in the update is the fix for performance drops seen in some cases in previous beta versions. Valve notes that performance could drop, especially when FSR is enabled or image composition is required. SteamOS 3.8.26 Beta aims to fix this issue. The bug that caused Firefox to occasionally freeze when switching to full screen in desktop mode has also been fixed.
On the VR side, a temporary fix has been implemented for an issue that caused the right eye view to be completely blank in some games using Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, Bluetooth instability seen in the initial release of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is fixed. The bug that allowed Desktop Mode to switch to resolutions below 640×480 on some displays, rendering the interface unusable, is also resolved.
Valve also offers significant fixes for other handheld consoles with this update. The Wi-Fi connection problem caused by the previous beta version on the MSI Claw A1M has been fixed, and battery indicator errors on Lenovo Legion Go models have also been corrected. The issue that caused the MSI Claw to freeze when exiting sleep mode with an SD card inserted is also resolved in this version.
SteamOS 3.8.26 Beta also eliminates a bug that could cause the system to freeze when the SD card was removed while the device was in sleep mode. The update is currently only available on the Beta and Preview channels. Valve plans to make necessary adjustments after collecting user feedback and then move the fixes from this release to the Stable channel later.
