Tom Holland points to Owen Cooper as Spider-Man

While Spider-Man remains one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland is aware that he won’t be playing the role forever. His Spider-Man journey, which began with Captain America: Civil War in 2016, quickly transformed him into a global star. However, in a recent interview, Holland revealed that he’s considering potential successors. According to the renowned actor, Owen Cooper, one of the rising young stars of recent times, could be a strong candidate for the next generation of Spider-Man.

Tom Holland spoke highly of Owen Cooper, who rose to prominence with his performance in the series Adolescence. The Netflix miniseries Adolescence was a significant turning point in Owen Cooper’s career. The young actor’s performance in this project earned him recognition at prestigious events such as the BAFTA TV Awards, Golden Globes, and Emmys. These successes demonstrate that Holland stands out not only for his popularity but also for his acting prowess.

Another noteworthy point in Holland’s statements is his desire to completely sever ties with the Spider-Man universe even after leaving the role. The actor acknowledges that being involved as a producer in the future isn’t easy, but says his main goal is to mentor the next generation of actors. He cites his experience with Robert Downey Jr. as an example.

Tom Holland has previously described how Downey acted as a mentor to him in the first three films. Now he wants to provide the same support to the actor who will follow him. This could be Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, or a new Peter Parker. Holland clearly states his desire to contribute to the proper continuation of the Spider-Man legacy.

For now, the actor hasn’t given up the costume. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026, and Holland will once again appear as Peter Parker. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film also stars Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, and Sadie Sink.
