Saros Gets Stuck on Old PlayStation Games in Sales
Saros, while one of PlayStation’s new games this year, may not have had the expected impact on sales. It’s difficult to say for sure as Sony hasn’t released official figures yet, but estimates from Alinea Analytics suggest the game lags behind some older first-party titles. This situation has fueled discussions about Housemarque’s future, especially given the ongoing studio closures and cost pressures in the industry.
Saros Ranks Sixth in Estimated Sales
According to Alinea Analytics data, Saros has sold approximately 415,000 copies since its release. This figure doesn’t make the game a complete failure among PlayStation releases coming out in 2026, but the bigger picture isn’t very bright either. During the same period, MLB The Show 26 reached approximately 756,000 sales, significantly ahead of Saros.
The most striking point is that older PlayStation games continue to sell strongly. Gran Turismo 7, despite being released in 2022, sold approximately 835,000 copies this year, nearly double the performance of Saros. Ghost of Yotei topped the list with approximately 1.1 million sales in the first half of 2026.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, despite being older, also managed to stay strong with approximately 699,000 sales. Astro Bot is estimated to have sold around 601,000 copies in 2026, bringing its total sales close to 4.3 million. This shows that the long-term sales potential of PlayStation games is still strong.
The real question for Saros will be what Sony expects from Housemarque. If the game’s sales approach the level of Returnal, it could be considered sufficient for the studio. However, compared to the major PlayStation brands, Saros is clearly more modest. Nevertheless, Housemarque’s ability to release games regularly, control costs, and have profit potential makes it valuable in today’s industry.
