Ubisoft is Testing Far Cry 7 with GenAI, and the Results are Terrible

Far Cry 7, even before its official detailed announcement, has already made headlines with discussions about artificial intelligence. Ubisoft’s recent increase in generative AI investments had already raised questions among players. Now, some GenAI tests conducted on the new game in the series have faced serious criticism, particularly regarding quality and creative processes.

Far Cry 7 GenAI Tests Spark Controversy

Ubisoft had explicitly stated in its latest financial report that it was accelerating its generative AI investments. The company aims to use this technology both in development processes and in systems that players can directly experience within the game. Ubisoft, which previously made headlines with its experimental AI project called Teammates, apparently isn’t limiting these tests to just one game.

Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming claimed that Ubisoft is conducting GenAI experiments on Far Cry 7 for research and development purposes. Henderson harshly criticized the results he saw, stating they looked “terrible.” Although he later deleted his initial post, he did not remove his statement that the AI ​​tests were being used in the R&D process. While this doesn’t necessarily mean the tests will directly make it into the final game, it suggests Ubisoft is conducting serious experiments in this direction.

The biggest concern for players is that such AI content will diminish the creative quality of the game. In a series like Far Cry, which stands out for its atmosphere, characters, and open world feel, AI-powered content that looks artificial, soulless, or rushed could provoke a strong reaction. Ubisoft’s recent association with canceled projects, financial pressures, and restructuring process further amplifies these concerns.

For now, it’s unclear whether GenAI will be used in the final version of Far Cry 7. It’s possible the tests will remain purely development-based. However, Ubisoft’s significant investment in AI is causing players to approach the future of the series with more caution. If the company is truly going to bring this technology to the game, it must use it as a tool to enrich the experience, not just to speed up the quality.
