Battlestate Wants to Invest in More Bold Game Projects

Battlestate Games is preparing to transfer the experience it gained with Escape from Tarkov to the publishing side. The company recently announced the creation of a new publishing arm that will focus on projects that other publishers find too risky or unwilling to support. According to studio head Nikita Buyanov, the goal is not just to release new games; it is to pave the way for bolder ideas that can stand out from the similar productions on the market.

Battlestate Wants to Prioritize Risky Ideas Over Profit

Buyanov says that revenue expectation is not the primary focus of the company’s new publishing approach. He states that the main goal is to support developers who lack sufficient resources, helping them bring their unconventional ideas to life. Even projects still in the prototype stage may attract Battlestate’s attention.

Behind this approach lies a critique of the gaming industry. According to Buyanov, many recent games rely on similar genres and formulas. He believes that truly risk-taking projects, despite the possibility of failure, can offer ideas different enough to transform the industry.

Escape from Tarkov is cited as a good example of this. The game never had a simplified structure to appeal to a wide audience. Despite being considered a risky project from the start due to its challenging mechanics and system that offered little player assistance, it managed to build a strong player base over the years.

Battlestate therefore wants to follow a similar path in publishing. Buyanov explicitly states that interesting and unconventional ideas are more important than potential profit. The company has not yet announced which developers and projects it will support in the coming period.
