StarCraft Won’t be an Xbox Exclusive, but…
StarCraft is preparing to take the series in a different direction with its new shooter project announced at BlizzCon, and platform discussions have begun. Blizzard has explicitly stated that the game will not be an Xbox exclusive, but hasn’t clarified exactly what that means. Whether the game will be released on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo, or a combination of these platforms is currently unknown.
StarCraft Will Not Be an Xbox Exclusive, But Platforms Unclear
A Blizzard spokesperson stated that at this stage, they can only say that StarCraft will not be an Xbox exclusive. The company is refraining from giving further details regarding the platform list. While a post from Xbox UK confirmed the game’s arrival on Xbox, Blizzard has not made a clear statement regarding other platforms.
The confusion here is particularly about how the term “exclusive” is used. For Xbox, a game being console-exclusive often doesn’t rule out a PC version. Therefore, StarCraft could remain limited to Xbox and PC, or it could be released on PlayStation or Nintendo. Blizzard is not currently confirming either of these possibilities.
Similar uncertainty exists for Diablo 5. While Blizzard emphasizes that PC and Battle.net are the company’s core platforms, they state that this doesn’t represent a complete platform plan. In other words, the company has postponed platform announcements for both Diablo 5 and StarCraft.
The new StarCraft game is reportedly planned for 2030 and will be a shooter. According to the director’s statements, the story aims for a character-driven and darker narrative inspired by titles like Deadwood. For now, the only thing certain is that the game won’t be locked to Xbox; which platforms it will be released on will become clear in the coming years.
