Black Ops 7’s Green Screen Map Draws Backlash

Black Ops 7, the new installment in the Call of Duty series, launched with high expectations, but post-launch controversy continues to rage. While the game has already been the target of criticism for both its technical details and gameplay decisions in its first week of release, the addition of a “green screen” map has now become a hot topic. Treyarch’s decision to design this map specifically for content creators has been met with mixed reactions from the player community.

Black Ops 7’s “Green Screen” Map Divides Players

According to a statement from Treyarch, this new multiplayer map, called “Green Screen,” is accessible through private matches. The studio stated that the map was designed for streamers and creators to create thumbnails or video scenes. The team even shared that the idea stemmed from the green screen area in the Studio map in Black Ops 2. However, many players are criticizing the inclusion of such a cosmetic detail in the launch version of the game, while fundamental gameplay flaws remain unaddressed.

Much of the backlash suggests that this option was prioritized incorrectly. While players are still complaining about the lack of a pause option in single-player mode, the development team’s addition of a “streamer-friendly” map has become a source of humor within the community. Hundreds of posts on social media have included things like, “We can’t pause the campaign, but we can take selfies!”

And the controversy isn’t limited to this map alone. The game currently holds a “Mixed” rating on Steam. Players are heavily criticizing the story mode’s weak plot and the constant internet connection requirement. Furthermore, the easy detection of AI-generated in-game assets—especially card designs—has sparked a renewed debate about the transparency of AI use.

Following all these developments, Black Ops 7’s launch has become known as one of the series’ most problematic launches. Treyarch has yet to officially release a statement, but it appears the studio will need to balance both technical issues and community outcry with future updates.
