Black Ops’ PlayStation Move Angered Xbox Players

The release of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 has brought significant momentum to the older games in the series. While these two titles, despite not offering significant graphical or gameplay improvements, have topped sales charts, Xbox players argue they haven’t experienced the same level of excitement. Microsoft’s ownership of Activision Blizzard further fuels these criticisms of the experience gap between platforms.

Why Did the Black Ops Move Anger Xbox Players?

Xbox users have long been able to play Black Ops and Black Ops 2 thanks to backward compatibility. Activision has also made some customization packs free on the Xbox store to ensure parity with the PlayStation versions. However, according to players, the real problem isn’t the content, but the current state of the old Xbox 360 servers. While the new PlayStation versions offer faster matchmaking and cleaner lobbies, achieving the same quality on the Xbox side seems quite difficult.

Some players report that finding a match on Xbox can take 15 to 20 minutes, and that the lobbies they enter are often modified by cheaters. They note that matches are found much faster on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and that similar cheating issues haven’t been encountered yet. Xbox players feel they are being forced onto outdated and unregulated servers.

The complaints aren’t just focused on long wait times or broken matches. Players are also concerned that modified lobbies could threaten account security. In the past, there have been allegations of users having their levels reduced to negative values, account access affected, and being scammed with false promises of experience points. Therefore, the community recommends immediately exiting any suspicious lobby.

The long period without active development of the old server infrastructure and source code may be making it difficult to fix Xbox versions. Therefore, players are requesting that new ports be prepared for Xbox, rather than simply relying on backward compatibility versions. The clean launch of the Black Ops games on PlayStation further amplified the question of why Microsoft wasn’t offering the same experience to players on its own platform.
