Developers Are Confident About The Witcher 4
One of the lead developers at CD Projekt Red recently expressed confidence about their upcoming game, The Witcher 4.

Fans finally got their first official look at The Witcher 4 during The Game Awards 2024, where an impressively rendered CGI trailer confirmed that Ciri will take Geralt’s place as the main protagonist for a new fantasy adventure. Not much else has been revealed about the game’s story.
Meanwhile, The Witcher 4 currently doesn’t have an official release date, CDPR also claimed that the game will take at least 2027 until official launch. This has left fans with plenty of time to speculate on how Ciri’s jump from Geralt’s adopted daughter and apprentice to a full fledged monster slayer in her own right will shape The Witcher 4’s plot and gameplay, and there is understandably a lot of pressure on CD Projekt Red to maintain the high level of quality found in previous Witcher entries.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer (via GamesRadar), The Witcher 4 lead writer Marcin Blacha said that he is feeling “pretty confident” about the game thanks to the goodwill that CD Projekt Red has built with fans of the series. While neither he nor CDPR invented The Witcher and its characters (that honor belongs to the original Witcher novel series writer Andrzej Sapkowski), Blacha says that the games have helped bring the franchise into the mainstream, and now The Witcher 4 will be able to build on that success.
Blacha went on to explain how working on the Witcher series has “shaped him” in a way that fuels his confidence in The Witcher 4. He helped develop all three of the previous mainline Witcher games, which have all gone on to become well regarded among RPG fans. 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in particular, has won countless awards and is considered by many to be one of the greatest video games ever made.
This leaves a lot of pressure for The Witcher 4 to meet or even surpass the heights of its predecessor, and CDPR will likely want to take as much time crafting it as possible to avoid a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous initial launch back in 2022. The Witcher 4 will also mark a major turning point in the franchise, thanks to its new protagonist and the many technical improvements it will likely have over past installments when it finally does launch.
