Donkey Kong Bananza is Hiding Clues for New Games
While Nintendo has long been focused on a new 3D Mario game, Donkey Kong Bananza has managed to garner more attention than expected. Becoming one of the standout platform games of the Nintendo Switch 2 era, it bears the signature of the Super Mario Odyssey team. Now, new statements from the development team suggest that Donkey Kong Bananza may not remain a standalone game.
Donkey Kong Bananza Could Inspire New Projects
In an interview at GDC, producer Kenta Motokura shared a noteworthy assessment of Donkey Kong Bananza. According to Motokura, some ideas developed in this game could find their way into the studio’s next project. In other words, the design philosophy and gameplay ideas that emerged during the Bananza process may be leaving small clues for future games.
Donkey Kong Bananza is actually a significant milestone for the team. It’s the first major 3D Donkey Kong adventure in almost 25 years, and also one of the first major projects from the team that developed Super Mario Odyssey during the Switch 2 era.
The game’s adventure with Pauline is another notable detail. The inclusion of a younger version of Pauline has raised some questions, particularly among players closely following the series. However, Motokura says this was deliberately left open.
According to the developer, leaving some details to the players’ imagination is a conscious choice. This approach is actually an important part of Nintendo’s design philosophy. It seems that Donkey Kong Bananza is not only a platform game for today, but also a kind of testing ground for the studio’s future projects.
