DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC is Still Not Available

DOOM: The Dark Ages, despite being released a full year ago, still hasn’t released the major expansion pack that Premium Edition owners have been waiting for. id Software had promised a “campaign DLC” with the expensive version of the game, but after 12 months, this content has neither been released nor fully demonstrated. This situation has naturally begun to test the patience of DOOM fans, especially those who paid extra at launch.

DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC Wait Extends

The Premium Edition was approximately $30 / £30 more expensive than the standard version at launch. This package included additions such as 48-hour early access, a costume pack, a digital art book, and a soundtrack. However, the real big promise for players was the story-focused DLC. Today, while the same version of the game is sold at significant discounts, players who bought the most expensive package on day one are still waiting for the main content to arrive.

The delay is now a frequent topic of discussion within the community. Some players feel that weeks have passed with only vague announcements and that the small amount of content released hasn’t filled the void. In an era where modern game prices are so high, the fact that a paid-for expansion pack hasn’t been released for so long is fueling player resentment.

On the other hand, there’s a more patient group. These players prefer id Software to create a more polished and robust package rather than rushing the DLC and delivering problematic content. This is essentially the core of the debate. If the expansion had been released too early, people would have asked, “Why wasn’t it in the main game?”; if it’s released too late, Premium Edition owners are rightfully asking, “When?”

id Software says the DLC will be much larger than just a small addition. Game director Hugo Martin even described the new content as almost “a sequel.” This statement raises expectations but also makes the wait even more apparent. For now, there’s no definite release date for the DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC, and Premium Edition owners are still being tested on patience.
