GOG Went Crazy, 4 Games Became Free
GOG, a familiar platform for PC gamers, has once again demonstrated its user-friendly approach with a noteworthy campaign. The digital store, part of CD Projekt, is offering four games for free to all new sign-ups, presenting this offer as a long-term “welcome gift,” not a short-term one.
What does GOG’s Free Game Campaign Offer?
New GOG members can permanently add four games to their library using the code WELCOMEGIFT. The campaign runs until October 7, 2034, and the games are DRM-free. This means players can play these games without needing any additional launchers or online verification. It may take a few minutes for the games to appear in the library after entering the code.
Two of the games offered for free are Worlds of Ultima: The Savage Empire and Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams. Released in the early 1990s, these titles are among the foundational games of the classic CRPG genre. These spin-offs, set in different worlds, are considered to have laid the groundwork for modern RPGs with their party-based role-playing systems.
Another game on the list is Lure of the Temptress, one of the earliest and most important examples of the point-and-click adventure genre. The game made history by offering a world where NPCs could move independently of the player, thanks to its Virtual Theatre engine, which was revolutionary for its time. Even today, it is considered a significant experience for fans of the genre.
The fourth and “newest” game is Betrayer, released in 2014. Set in 17th-century America, this game stands out with its unstructured gameplay, dark atmosphere, and exploration-based structure. Removed from Steam, the game is currently only accessible via GOG and can be obtained for free thanks to this campaign.
