Good News for Halloween Franchise

John Carpenter’s Halloween is still regarded by many as one of the greatest slasher films ever made, spawning an entire film franchise with numerous sequels and reboots. The majority of these films are centered around Michael Myers, a masked serial killer who may or may not be the living embodiment of evil, and the many innocent souls caught in his murderous rampages. Halloween had a licensed video game for the Atari 2600 in 1983, though none of the film’s characters were named.

Since then, most of The Shape’s gaming appearances have been guest roles in other properties. In 2014, Michael Myers was featured as a playable character in a DLC pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts and would later join a laundry list of other famed killers of the silver screen when he was added to Dead by Daylight alongside his longtime nemesis Laurie Strode. Last October, Michael was added to Fortnite as part of the Halloween-centric Fortnitemares 2023 event, where he was joined by Jack Skellington of Nightmare Before Christmas fame.

Michael Myers is finally getting a starring role in a video game after almost 35 years, as two official Halloween video game projects have been announced. According to IGN, these titles will be published by Boss Team Games, the company behind 2022’s Evil Dead: The Game, and are being developed in conjunction with the producers of the Halloween franchise, Compass International Pictures and Further Front. Details are scarce as of this writing, but one of the projects is reportedly being built using Unreal Engine 5, with John Carpenter himself said to be assisting.

Halloween franchise’s comeback will make fans to experience classic series once again, with dedicated video game series, but it’s not clear if it will include Laurie or Michael. The possibilities for both of these games are endless, with one potential option being an asymmetrical horror title in the style of Alien: Isolation.
