Halo Studios Shaken by Layoffs Following Campaign Evolved

Halo Studios is making headlines again, this time with employee layoffs, shortly after the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved. The studio, which made history by being the first game in the series to be released on PlayStation, has revealed that several people have lost their jobs. The extent of the layoffs and which teams are affected remains unclear, as the company has yet to release a comprehensive statement.

Halo Studios Employees Announce Layoffs

Producer Nick Treitman, who shared his experiences on LinkedIn, announced that he was affected by the latest wave of layoffs after working on Halo projects for six and a half years. Treitman stated that he supported various departments such as art, networking, localization, and story teams, and also served as product owner for the social multiplayer side of Halo Infinite. The experienced producer also openly stated that the current situation in the gaming industry is quite difficult.

Paul Morris, who served as a scrum master at the studio, also parted ways with the team after the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved. However, it is stated that Morris was a contract employee, not a full-time employee. Software engineer Caleb Lawrence also recently made his profile open to new job opportunities. It’s difficult to say whether this is a small-scale restructuring or a broader layoff, as the exact number of employees affected is currently unknown.

The timing of the layoff news is also noteworthy. Shortly after its release, Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Metacritic user score dropped to 5.2, with a significant portion of the reviews focusing on technical issues, Microsoft account login problems, and unpolished sections. As we reported in our article yesterday on Halo Campaign Evolved’s user score, despite strong critics, the game faced a very harsh reaction from players.

However, we don’t have enough information to directly link the employee departures to user reviews. Studios sometimes downsize teams or part ways with contract employees after a project is completed. Until Microsoft or Halo Studios make an official statement, it’s best not to speculate on the reasons. However, these announcements, coming immediately after what was described as a successful launch, have further heightened the uncertainty within Halo Studios.
