Is the Kratos Era Coming to an End in God of War?
Santa Monica Studio’s mysterious project has been a subject of speculation for years. Cory Barlog, director of the 2018 God of War, handed over the reins to Eric Williams for Ragnarok and moved on to a new project. For a long time, it was speculated that this project might be a new IP. However, recent developments have strengthened the possibility of a game set in the God of War universe but outside the norm.
A New Game in the God of War Universe Could Center on Faye
A LinkedIn profile discovered by ResetEra users revealed that Santa Monica is working on “a new franchise within the God of War universe.” The former senior writer who shared the profile states that they are developing new characters, storylines, and original mythological elements within the studio. This statement has been interpreted as one of the most concrete signs yet that the series will be expanded.
NateTheHate, known for reliable leaks from within the industry, claims that Faye will be the main character in this project. According to the claims, the game will be more action-oriented than the Norse duo and will be released in the first half of 2027. It’s also rumored that the announcement could happen this year. Of course, it’s important to remember that all this information is just a rumor until an official announcement is made.
Faye appeared in the 2018 game as the character who started the story. Known as Laufey, a giant, Faye’s past conflict with Thor and the story of the Leviathan Axe lay the groundwork for a potential prequel. Such a scenario could center on the pre-Kratos era and the Jotunheim front.
It has also been previously reported that Sony wants to expand the God of War brand into a larger universe. If this project is real, God of War could cease to be solely Kratos’ story and become a much larger mythological universe.
