John Romero’s Haunted Lands has a Release Date
Haunted Lands, carrying on the legacy of classic games created by John Romero, has finally received an official release date. This retro-style side-scrolling action game aims to reinterpret the spirit of classic PC platform games with modern touches.
Haunted Lands Releases March 10th
Haunted Lands isn’t actually a new series, but rather a spiritual successor to Romero’s 1990 game Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion. Developed during the transitional period when id Software founders were working with Softdisk, the Dangerous Dave series was notable for its action-packed gameplay and surprisingly brutal violence for its time.
The new game builds upon this classic structure with more modern ideas. Players won’t be limited to just one character. The game will feature six different characters with varying abilities, including a mage who uses electric attacks and a powerful werewolf capable of tearing enemies apart. This variety allows for experimentation with different strategies throughout the game.
Another notable aspect of Haunted Lands is its fast-paced and intense action despite its retro 8-bit visual style. Players will be able to use weapons like shotguns as they progress through levels filled with zombies, goblins, and various grotesque creatures. Special artifacts that completely alter character abilities will also play a significant role in the game’s progression.
Developed by Alevgor, Haunted Lands aims to combine the atmosphere of classic platform games with modern gameplay concepts. The game will be released in full on March 10th and is expected to offer an interesting alternative for players who enjoy retro action games.
