Koei Tecmo’s Project Fuji Game will Receive Government Funding
Koei Tecmo has made headlines with a new game that hasn’t been officially announced yet. According to leaked information, the studio’s project, codenamed “Project Fuji,” has been included in a special program created by the Japanese government to support new intellectual property projects. While official details are still quite limited, initial information suggests the game targets a global market.
Koei Tecmo Prepares a New IP with Project Fuji
The official list shows that Koei Tecmo’s game, codenamed “Project Fuji,” has been accepted into the IP360 program run by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI). This initiative aims to provide financial support and development assistance to new intellectual property projects that can spread Japanese culture worldwide, such as manga, anime, and video games.
According to a statement released as part of the program, Koei Tecmo is developing an entirely new IP, leveraging its expertise in Eastern-themed visual design and action games. The company’s goal is not only to create a successful game but also to transform this title into a long-lasting brand capable of global growth. However, no official information has yet been shared regarding the game’s plot, gameplay system, or release platforms.
Koei Tecmo isn’t the only one participating in the IP360 program. It was announced that Arc System Works is working on a new fighting game, Konami is developing a new console game targeting the global market, and SEGA’s previously announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads project is also receiving support. Square Enix, instead of announcing a new game, stated it will focus on global localization efforts for its existing projects.
While information about Project Fuji is currently limited, its selection among projects supported by the Japanese government indicates that the game is seen as a significant investment for the company. It is unknown when Koei Tecmo will make an official announcement. However, expectations are already high that the new IP could be one of the studio’s most ambitious projects in recent years.
