Lanterns Thrills DC fans with It’s New Trailer
Lanterns has released a new trailer that has raised expectations even higher after the initial teaser. The lack of action in the first trailer had disappointed some comic book readers. However, this new trailer more clearly showcases Green Lantern powers, Hal Jordan in costume, and the surprise appearance of Guy Gardner, giving a stronger indication of the show’s tone.
Lanterns Will Tell a Darker Story of the Green Lantern Universe
One of the most striking details in the new trailer is Hal Jordan’s first more explicit appearance in his Green Lantern costume. Guy Gardner also makes an appearance, strengthening the DCU connection. The character, previously seen in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2, suggests that the show could be a significant part of the new DC universe.
The series seems to be taking a slightly different direction from the classic Green Lantern adventure. The story focuses on John Stewart and Hal Jordan investigating a dark murder mystery in central America. So while the space policing concept is retained, the narrative is leaning towards a more grounded, detective-like structure. This choice could also bring the series closer to the thriller side than just superhero action.
The tension between Hal Jordan and John Stewart is also highlighted in the trailer. Hal doesn’t seem to believe John is worthy of joining the Corps, while John believes he’s the right person to protect Earth. This conflict could be one of the main elements driving the character dynamics of the series. Furthermore, the frequent emphasis on horror themes reminds comic book fans of the possibility of a Sinestro Corps or even Parallax.
Starring Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, and Laura Linney, Lanterns will air on HBO in August. Laura Linney’s role hasn’t been officially announced, but it’s rumored she might play Carol Ferris. The new trailer shows the series will still offer a more realistic interpretation of Green Lantern, but this time adding the much-anticipated ring action.
