The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington D.C. is one of the iconic landmarks normally known for its mirror-like reflection. However, the pool’s recent greenish hue hasn’t gone unnoticed by the gaming world. Fallout 3 fans have turned the issue into a lighthearted discussion on social media, saying the new look strongly resembles the post-apocalyptic Washington atmosphere of the game.
Fallout 3 Fans Immediately Notice the Green Pool
Fallout 3 takes players to a post-apocalyptic area centered in Washington D.C. called the Capital Wasteland. In the game, we encounter real-world monuments in ruins, contaminated by radiation, and desolate. Therefore, the Lincoln Memorial pool turning green inevitably created a familiar image for players familiar with the series.
The discoloration in the pool is attributed to an increase in algae following recent renovations. The new coating and the discoloration of the pool bottom may have caused the water to retain more heat. According to experts, this type of algae growth is particularly common during warmer periods. So, there’s no nuclear war or super mutants involved; it’s just that nature has been a little too creative.
