New Images have Leaked from the Canceled Version of DOOM 4
DOOM 4, despite its development process ending years ago, has resurfaced thanks to new materials that have surfaced. Images shared from the canceled project, which aimed to bring the series closer to military shooter games, reveal previously unseen details about enemy animations, voice acting, and demon designs. It’s also suggested that some of the content may have been reused in recently released DOOM games.
DOOM 4 Images Reveal Canceled Project
Development footage shared on social media shows captured soldiers in various movements and voice acting remnants of their human forms. The videos also show various animations prepared for friendly and enemy characters, encounter systems, and test scenes from the production process. The materials reveal that a significant amount of work was done on DOOM 4 before the decision to cancel it was made.
The images include early designs of some demons. Notable examples include injury animations for Imp, an intro scene believed to be of a creature called Soul Swallower, and an unidentified female-shaped demon with tentacles. While it’s unknown how much of this content made it to the playable version, it appears a comprehensive roster of enemies was planned for the project.
It had been suggested that DOOM 4 would approach a more traditional military shooter, heavily utilizing urban environments. The project was canceled in 2013 due to the perceived departure from the series’ identity, and the development team subsequently focused on the 2016 DOOM reboot. New images also suggest that the canceled game had a significantly different atmosphere than modern DOOM productions.
Meanwhile, it’s claimed that some DOOM 4 content has been reused in the Revelations expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages. The assault rifle, minigun, vehicles, and city designs seen in scenes depicting Flynn Taggart’s backstory are said to be similar to materials from the original project. This connection hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but it’s possible some ideas from the canceled DOOM 4 have returned to the series years later.
