Overwatch Forgot Doomfist

The Overwatch community is once again bustling with activity. When Blizzard announced the new hero, Vendetta, as the “first melee Damage,” players were left with only one question: What about Doomfist? Doomfist, once known for his fists and the role of Damage in Overwatch, seems to have been virtually ignored. This announcement has created both humor and controversy within the Overwatch community, as players clearly haven’t forgotten their memories.

Doomfist Debate Reignites in Overwatch

The Overwatch community immediately reacted to this announcement on social media. Players reminded them that Doomfist was a Damage class in the first game and focused on melee combat, refreshing Overwatch’s memory. Blizzard’s announcement of Vendetta as the “first” was perceived by many fans as a dismissal of Overwatch’s past. Furthermore, some players are questioning why Doomfist, known only for his fists, isn’t considered “melee Damage.”

Another aspect of the debate is the differing opinions among players. Some players argue that Doomfist isn’t a true melee character because he has a ranged attack, while others argue that the character’s core identity is based on punching. This has turned into a fun but heated debate on social platforms. This time, the Overwatch community seems to be fighting over definitions, not meta.

Blizzard’s statement is believed to be driven by Overwatch 2’s dividing line. Vendetta is considered the first melee damage hero in the Overwatch 2 era, and the studio is effectively trying to rewrite past class changes. However, the community insists on not forgetting the game’s history. The return of classic modes and reminders of the old meta, in particular, make players believe that history shouldn’t be erased. Overwatch remains a game whose history can be mocked but never forgotten.

The date for Vendetta to be available to players is very close. A limited-time trial event will run from November 26th to December 1st, after which the hero will be fully incorporated into the game in Season 20. Discussions have already begun, and Vendetta has set the Overwatch agenda before even taking to the field.
