Xbox Helix will be as Powerful as the RTX 5080
Xbox Helix, Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox project developed in collaboration with AMD, has already become the focus of hardware rumors. Recently revealed information about AMD’s RDNA 5 architecture has led to claims that the console’s graphics power could be much higher than expected. In particular, improvements in low-precision AI calculations could provide a significant advantage in ray tracing and rendering technologies.
Xbox Helix Could Approach RTX 5080 Levels
According to Kepler_L2, known for hardware leaks, RDNA 5 could offer approximately twice the processing capacity per SIMD in FP8 and FP4 matrix operations compared to RDNA 4 and NVIDIA Blackwell. This value doesn’t directly reflect gaming performance, but it represents a significant improvement in AI-based image processing systems.
Microsoft previously confirmed that the new Xbox will use a custom-built AMD SoC. The company has also stated its goal of achieving a significant leap in ray tracing. AMD’s FSR Diamond technology, utilizing features like neural network-based upscaling, Multi Frame Generation, and ray regeneration, makes the more powerful matrix units crucial.
Commenting on the leak, eXtas1s suggests that this improvement offered by RDNA 5 could significantly boost path tracing performance, potentially bringing AMD’s AT2 GPU closer to RTX 5080 levels. However, there’s an important distinction: there’s no actual benchmark test performed on the Xbox Helix. The RTX 5080 comparison is based on calculations derived from various hardware estimates.
Furthermore, Microsoft and AMD haven’t yet definitively confirmed that the Xbox Helix will use RDNA 5 for graphics. Therefore, the claim of RTX 5080-level performance should be viewed with caution for now. However, if the leaks are accurate, the new Xbox is likely to make a big leap not so much with its raw graphics power, but with AI-powered rendering and ray tracing technologies.
