Sacha Baron Cohen Returns with Ali G: Who Iz I?

Amazon MGM has released the official trailer for Ali G: Who Iz I?, starring Sacha Baron Cohen. The film begins with Ali G, who has been living a comfortable life for over 20 years, learning that his long-term girlfriend Julie is eight months pregnant. Suddenly faced with more responsibility, he decides to go to America to regain his former fame, but things quickly become far more dangerous than he expected.

Ali G: Who Iz I? Brings Back Sacha Baron Cohen’s Old Formula

Sacha Baron Cohen first introduced the Ali G character in 1998 on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show. The character later got his own show, The Ali G Show, and was brought to the big screen in 2002 with the film Ali G Indahouse. Ali G: Who Iz I? will bring the character back to the center of a film after many years.

The new production will follow a method very similar to the one Cohen used in projects like Borat, Brüno, and Who Is America?. While the film will be made using covert filming, Cohen will again embody the characters, attempting to capture the reactions of real people. Given Ali G’s past unconventional interviews with figures like Noam Chomsky, Andy Rooney, and Newt Gingrich, similar surprises are expected in the new film.

Who Iz I? will also mark the beginning of a new era for Sacha Baron Cohen. With this project, the actor will be directing a feature film for the first time. Cohen not only directs but also writes the screenplay and produces under the Four by Two Films banner. Petr Jákl and Emily Kob serve as executive producers.

Sacha Baron Cohen has recently appeared in Marvel’s Ironheart series as Mephisto, and in projects such as Ladies First for Netflix and Balls Up for Prime Video. Ali G: Who Iz I? will take the actor back to one of the most recognizable characters of his career. The film will be released in theaters on October 23rd.
