Netflix will Continue the Mystery with its New Manifest Series Arrivals
Netflix has officially greenlit Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery, a series that will expand the Manifest universe. The new production will reunite the original series’ creative team, but this time with entirely different characters and a new storyline. Manifest creator Jeff Rake will be involved in the project, while Margaret Easley and Laura Putney will serve as co-creators and co-showrunners.
Arrivals Will Launch a New Mystery in the Manifest Universe
The story of Arrivals begins with a plane making a mysterious emergency landing in Denver. Passengers disembarking from the plane have no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they are there. A young social worker and an inexperienced Homeland Security officer will begin working together to help these people.
However, the story won’t be limited to lost memories. As the characters try to prevent a catastrophe that could bring about the end of humanity, they will discover that they themselves are part of the mystery they are trying to solve. Thus, Arrivals will continue the supernatural mystery and large-scale threat approach of the original Manifest with a new story.
The date Netflix chose to announce the series also carries a small nod to the show’s fans. The announcement was made on August 28th at 8:28 AM. The number 828, central to Flight 828 in Manifest, held significant importance in the original series’ story. The same number was specifically used in the announcement of the new production.
Manifest was canceled in 2021 after three seasons on NBC, but was brought back by Netflix for a fourth and final season. According to Netflix data, the four seasons of the series have garnered over 130 million views since the first half of 2023. While the cast and release date for Arrivals have not yet been announced, the return of the creative team suggests the new series will maintain the core narrative line of Manifest.
