Genki Manta Pushes Boundaries with Its Own Operating System

Developed by Human Things, the Genki Manta combines high-end hardware specifications with a custom operating system called MantaOS. Offered through crowdfunding with a support fee of approximately $200, the controller features TMR analog sticks, adjustable triggers, analog input-sensing action buttons, and Maglev linear motors. However, what truly sets it apart is the extensive customization options accessible via its on-screen display.

Genki Manta Doesn’t Require a Computer for Settings

Thanks to MantaOS, the controller’s on-screen display functions as a direct settings center. Users can modify the behavior of the analog sticks, vibration characteristics, and other control options without installing additional software on a computer. Settings can be stored under eight different profiles, allowing for separate control schemes for different games.

Macro support is also among the system’s notable features. Genki Manta not only executes pre-created key combinations; it also offers a system that can record recent inputs retrospectively. This feature, similar to how car cameras record the past few minutes, allows the player to later convert the key combinations they just performed into macros.

On the hardware side, the resistance of the TMR analog sticks is physically adjustable. The trigger travel distance can be changed, and the action buttons can detect analog inputs instead of just operating as on/off switches. This structure could allow for more precise throttle and brake control, especially in racing games. The controller’s battery is also planned to be replaceable by opening the body.

MantaOS runs on the Raspberry Pi RP2350 and can even run small games directly on the controller. Human Things believes that in the future, functions such as controlling streaming software like OBS Studio or managing television via the IR transmitter may also be possible. The fact that Genki Manta is compatible with PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 makes it more than just a powerful controller; it’s a unique product that aims to create its own small ecosystem.
