Spider-Man 3 should be inspired by Wolverine

Insomniac Games has become one of the strongest studios in the superhero game industry. While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 received high praise from critics, it garnered a more divided response from players. The gameplay balance, the feel of the Force, and the narrative style, in particular, generated more debate compared to the first game in the series. Therefore, attention is already focused on the direction Spider-Man 3 will take.

The Right Path for Spider-Man 3 Might Be Wolverine

The upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine shows Insomniac moving towards a simpler, more grounded approach to superheroes. Wolverine’s gameplay focuses on close combat, timing, and direct engagement rather than exaggerated ability chains. This approach is reminiscent of the more controlled and fluid combat system in the first Marvel’s Spider-Man game.

Spider-Man 3 should be inspired by Wolverine

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the powers and equipment offered to both Peter Parker and Miles Morales made the player excessively powerful over time. A significant portion of the fights relied on waiting for abilities to recharge and ending the conflict in a single move. This relegated elements like environmental awareness, reflexes, and creativity to the background.

However, the example of Wolverine shows that limited but effective abilities force the player to play more consciously. Adopting the same approach in Spider-Man 3 could bring the series closer to its roots. Spider-Man’s power comes not only from his abilities but also from his agility, timing, and acrobatic fighting style.

This inspiration doesn’t have to be limited to gameplay. Wolverine’s tougher and darker tone could open the door to a bolder narrative for Spider-Man 3. Of course, the character’s spirit and sincere tone must be preserved. However, it seems that Spider-Man 3, by taking the right lessons from Wolverine, could become the most balanced and powerful game in the series.
