Spider-Man and Punisher Could Be the Best Duo in the MCU
Spider-Man has often been positioned as a younger, more hopeful, and more humorous hero within the MCU. The Punisher, on the other hand, is known for his harsh methods and dark world. The fact that these two characters would be together in the same film was already noteworthy. However, newly shared behind-the-scenes footage suggests that the chemistry between Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal could make the film even more interesting than expected.
Unexpected Chemistry Between Spider-Man and Punisher
The official Spider-Man Movie account shared a new video on June 19th for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The footage focuses on the on-set dynamic between Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal. The post describes the duo’s chemistry as “unique,” and also reiterates that the film will be released on July 31st.
Holland said his bond with Bernthal began long before the MCU. According to the actor, the two were together in Ireland when Holland was just 17 years old. Even more interestingly, Bernthal filmed Holland’s Spider-Man audition video at that time, and Holland helped with Bernthal’s first Punisher audition video. Their reunion in the same film years later therefore holds special meaning for them.
Holland stated that he had long wanted to appear on screen with Bernthal in these roles. He said that their relationship developed naturally on set and gradually evolved into a “brotherly” dynamic. Director Destin Daniel Cretton also supported this improvisational energy and chose not to interfere with the actors’ flow.
According to Cretton, the chemistry between Holland and Bernthal creates moments so natural they couldn’t be written into a script. This suggests that in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the relationship between Spider-Man and Punisher could be strong not only in terms of action but also in terms of humor and character conflict. Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, and Mark Ruffalo will also star in the film.
