The Final Trailer for the Star-Studded Film The Odyssey has been Released
Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited new film, The Odyssey, has released its final trailer just days before its theatrical release. Titled “Countdown,” the new promotional video features the most comprehensive footage seen from the film to date. In his first major project in the fantasy genre, Nolan reinterprets Homer’s legendary epic using modern cinematic technologies, and with its cast, he is preparing to be one of the most noteworthy productions of the year.
The Odyssey Stands Out with its Star-Studded Cast and Visual World
The released trailer reveals many new scenes from Odysseus’s arduous journey. The encounter with the giant Cyclops is particularly striking. Christopher Nolan explained that to create the most realistic atmosphere possible in these scenes, they used computer effects, animatronics, puppets, and live performances on set. According to the director, the aim was to portray a fantastic creature not in a fairytale way, but as terrifying as something one might encounter in real life.
Starring Matt Damon, the film also features a star-studded cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Corey Hawkins, and many more. This extensive cast already hails The Odyssey as one of the most ambitious productions of 2026.
Matt Damon revealed that filming, particularly the Cyclops scenes, was quite challenging. According to him, the crew filmed in a real cave, working in a natural environment with thousands of bees at the entrance. Inside, they spent hours filming with dozens of sheep. Nolan also noted that the dark, enclosed atmosphere of the real cave directly contributed to the actors’ performances, adding a completely different level of realism to the film by using real locations instead of a studio.
Shot in various locations around the world using new IMAX film technology, The Odyssey is considered one of Christopher Nolan’s biggest projects to date, not only visually but also technically. The latest trailer has raised expectations even higher, particularly with its action scenes, massive battle sequences, and the way mythological creatures are brought to life on screen. The Odyssey will be released in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
